TIMOTHY CARROLL - OFFICE OF THE CLERK OF THE HOUSE - The committee on Rules and the committee on rules of the two branches acting concurrently reports recommending that joint Rule 12 be suspended on the following petitions. A petition of Carmen Lawrence Gentile, Liz Miranda, Samantha Montano, for legislation to establish an LGBTQIA plus parent advisory councils in public schools. Petition of Lindsay Ann Sabadosa relative to school safety in schools, severally to the committee on education, and a petition of JD Livingstone and others relative to ivory and rhinoceros horn trafficking to the committee on environment and natural resources.
GARBALLEY - Ms. Peisch of Wellesley moves suspension of the rules. All those in favor say aye, opposed,101 no,101 the101 ayes101 have it. Rules are suspended. Question comes on suspension of Joint Rule 12. All those in favor say aye, opposed, no, the ayes have it. Joint Rule 12 is suspended. The chair would like to take this opportunity to introduce seated in the third division, guests of Representative Peisch, the Weston High School girls swim and dive team who won their third overall and second consecutive MIAA division 2 state championship this past winter. The group will be touring the State House with Representative Peisch, they are led by head coach Jim McLaughlin. Congratulations, and welcome to the House. The House will be in a brief recess. At the request of Ms. Badger of Plymouth and Ms. LaNatra of Kingston, will the members, guests, and employees please stand in a moment of silent tribute in the memory of Margie Clausen Burgess, a dedicated lifelong member of our Plymouth community who passed away on March 14th at 86 years old.
Margie's life was marked by service through her extensive volunteer work. Active in the Plymouth community, she served on the Plymouth School Committee for 23 years and was a member of town meeting, energy committee, capital outlay committee, and distinguished visitors committee. Margie opened her heart and home to countless young people, hosting students on international exchanges. She also volunteered with the Spire Center and was active with the Plymouth Rotary Club and the League of Women Voters. Margie was beloved mother of Andrea Nedley and her husband, Scott of Plymouth, Margaret Fisher, and her late husband, Richard of Virginia.245 She is the cherished grandmother of Christy Wilbur of Virginia. Her legacy of kindness, service, and dedication to Plymouth will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Thank you. The House will be in a brief recess. Representative Shand of Newburyport moves that when the house adjourns today, it do so in respect to the memory of Nicholas J. Costello, a member of the House from Amesbury from 1979 to 1983, and a member of the Senate from 1983 to 1990. All those in favor say aye, opposed, no, the ayes have it. The special adjournment is adopted. Mr. Soter of Bellingham moves that the House do now adjourn. All those in favor say aye, opposed, no, the ayes have it, and the House stands adjourned to meet Thursday next at 11:00 AM in an informal session.
