Synopsis:
The legislative committee hearing opened with REP Garballey calling the house to order, leading the members and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance. Elizabeth Thompson briefly reported on the temporary committee on rules' recommendation that the resolutions recognizing Barbara LaMontagne's service be adopted. Subsequently, the suspension of rules was moved, voted on, and adopted without opposition, resulting in the formal adoption of the resolution.
Throughout the session, special recognition was given to numerous groups. Representative Jeff Roy, Representative Soter, Representative Scanlon, and others welcomed the Tri County Cougars football team, celebrating their victory in the Small School State Vocational Super Bowl. Additionally, Representative Kate Donahue and Representative Hannah Kane acknowledged the achievements of the Westborough Girls Varsity Volleyball team on their three consecutive state championships, celebrating their dedication and sportsmanship.
REP Chan took the floor to mark the occasion of the Lunar New Year. On behalf of the House Asian Caucus, which included members like Mr. Wong, Mr. Wing, and others, Chan highlighted the cultural significance of the holiday, expressing good wishes as they entered the Year of the Snake, known for transformation and wisdom.
Further recognitions were given as the Wellesley High School Girls Swim Team, led by head coach Doug Curtin, was honored for their championship success in state-level competitions. Coach Curtin’s leadership earned special mention as the Division 2 Swim Coach of the Year.
As the session drew to a close, Mr. Mariano of Quincy introduced an order regarding the next meeting schedule which Elizabeth Thompson read, setting the upcoming session for the following Monday at 11 AM. The order was swiftly adopted. The proceedings ended with Mister Meradian of Grafton moving for adjournment, which passed without opposition, bringing the hearing to a close until the next scheduled session.
