Synopsis:

The legislative committee hearing began with House Speaker Rep Donato calling the session to order. The assembly was asked to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance as usual. The first item on the agenda was a report from the Committee on Rules presented by Timothy Carroll from the Office of the Clerk of the House. The report recommended the adoption of a resolution filed by Representative Peisch of Wellesley that honored the partners for youth with disabilities on their fortieth anniversary. The resolution was moved by Ms. Peisch, and after a call for votes, it was adopted unanimously with no opposition.

Following the adoption of the resolution, Carroll continued with the Committee on Rules' next report concerning an order filed by Speaker Mariano. This order involved issuing a precept under Section 141 of Chapter 54 of the general laws to fill a vacancy in the office of Representative in the general court from the Third Bristol District. The election date was set for June 10, 2025. Mr. Galvin of Canton moved for the suspension of the rules, indicating immediate consideration of the order, which was passed unanimously by voice vote.

The session included a somber moment as Representative Blais called for a tribute to James Richardson, honoring his long service as an elected assessor and tree warden in the town of Shelburne. Richardson's significant contributions to his community and his commitment to service were highlighted as members stood for a moment of silence in his memory.

Mr. Mariano of Quincy then introduced another order for adjournment, which was read by Carroll. The House agreed that after adjournment today, the next meeting would be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Before adjourning, Ms. Ferguson of Holden moved for the House to stand adjourned, which was approved without objection.

The hearing focused largely on procedural orders, the honoring of individuals and organizations, and the planning of subsequent legislative actions, with efficient and unanimous political accord among the participants.
